Crafters rejoice! Hobby Lobby to open in Branson

For Nikki Silva and her “crafty” friends, the opening of Hobby Lobby in Branson later this month is a major occasion.

“We’ve marked it on our calendars,” she quips.

Nikki is the Marketing Director for Branson Landing, but she had her own scrapbook business for 20 years, and a card-making business for 15 years. Crafting is still a passion of hers. “It’s my creative outlet,” she says.

And she is “very, very excited” to have Hobby Lobby opening in Branson. She and her friends will no longer have to travel to Springfield or other places to get their craft supplies.

The new Branson store will be the 26th Hobby Lobby in Missouri, joining more than 900 in the nation. The 61,000 square foot building formerly occupied by Kmart, located on State Hwy 248 and James F. Epps Road, is slated to open in late September.

“The success of our stores in Missouri is a good indicator that Branson shoppers will be pleased with the quality, selection and value we offer in the craft and home decor market,” notes Kelly Black, Hobby Lobby’s Director of Advertising. “New customers and those already familiar with the Hobby Lobby shopping experience are eagerly anticipating this store opening.”

Anyone who has walked into a Hobby Lobby knows that the football field-sized stores offer a dizzying array of arts and crafts supplies, home decor and holiday merchandise including floral and wedding items, fabrics, needle art, custom framing, baskets, wearable art, cards and party ware, jewelry making, scrapbooking and paper crafting.

That is what makes it so fun, according to Nikki.

“You go in for your adhesive, or whatever, and then you see this great home décor item, and then you see that fabric. And then there are all of the holiday items!”

Nikki and her friends cannot wait for opening day. “I’m sure it will be a big grand opening,” she laughs. “I may even have to take time off work!”

Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. began in 1970, when David and Barbara Green took out a $600 loan to begin making miniature picture frames out of their family garage. Two years later, they opened a 300-square-foot store in Oklahoma City, and Hobby Lobby was born. Today, Hobby Lobby is the world’s largest privately owned arts-and-crafts retailer with more than 900 stores operating in 46 states.

The new Branson Hobby Lobby is expecting to open in late September and their store hours will be Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. They are closed on Sundays.
